Making connections happen, beyond the first hello.
We believe making friends as an adult shouldn't be left to chance.
There are plenty of interesting people around us, but finding the ones you'd genuinely enjoy spending time with — and actually making plans together — isn't always easy.
That's why we created Mutual Strangers: a way to bring people together through shared interests and experiences.
We match people into small groups based on what they enjoy, what they're looking for and when they're available. Each group starts with a shared direction — Active, Creative, Curious or Social — giving everyone a natural reason to meet.
We personally make the matches, help get the conversation started and give each group ideas to get going. What happens next is up to you.
We believe connections grow when people are open to meeting, find something in common and make time to experience things together.
A little common ground. A reason to meet. Room for something more.
Who's behind it?
Mutual Strangers is an independent initiative founded in Amsterdam by me, Martijn.
We're starting small and matching people by hand, giving every group personal attention. The idea is simple: make it easier for people to find their kind of people and turn shared interests into real-life connections.

More than meeting. Making something happen.
Our social lives are always changing. We move to new cities, discover new interests, enter different life phases or simply find ourselves wanting a different kind of company.
Sometimes we want more people around us. Sometimes we already have friends, but we're looking for people who share a particular interest, curiosity or way of spending time.
We believe there's always room for new connections.
That's why we created Mutual Strangers: a way to meet people through shared interests and turn those first encounters into something more.
A shared interest. A reason to connect.
Instead of a one-off meetup or an arranged dinner, we bring small groups together around an activity or shared project.
It could be a photography project, exploring Amsterdam, trying something creative or discovering something new together.
The idea is simple: when people have something to do together, conversations happen more naturally. And when there's a shared goal, there's a reason to meet again.
We call these experiences Friend Projects: small, shared adventures that give new connections room to grow.
We match. We get things started. You take it from there.
We personally match people based on their interests, preferences and availability.
Once your group is formed, we help break the ice, get the conversation going and give you a little nudge towards your first plan.
After that, it's yours to shape. We don't organise every activity or plan every meetup. Your group decides what to do, when to meet and what to make of the experience.
Our role is to get the right people together and give them a good starting point.

Find your people. Make something happen.
Tip: No trust signals. For a service about meeting strangers, visitors will wonder who’s behind it, how matching works, and what happens with their data. A short “who we are” with a photo, plus a note on privacy, would help. The About page is probably the place for it.

About Page
“Making friends as an adult is hard.
Remember how easy it was to make friends when you were younger? You met someone, spent time together, and before you knew it, you were friends.
As adults, it’s not always that simple.
Between work, busy schedules, and the routines of everyday life, making new friends can feel surprisingly difficult. Beyond our colleagues, where do we meet new people? How do we know if someone is open to making friends? And once we’ve met, how do we turn that first connection into something more?
Maybe you already have friends, but you’re missing people who share your interests. Someone to explore museums with, try a wine tasting, take a creative course, or spontaneously go for a drink.
Maybe you’re a new parent looking to connect with other parents. Maybe you’ve moved to Amsterdam and want to build a social life in a new city.
Whatever your situation, you’re not alone.
We live in cities full of people and possibilities, yet finding the right people and making plans together can be surprisingly hard.
Because meeting people is one thing. Building friendships is another.
And if you want more meaningful connections in your life, you shouldn’t have to leave it to chance.
Being alone can feel lonely. Finding your people shouldn't be so hard.
Everyone deserves the opportunity to build a social life that feels right for them.
Meet people. Share experiences. Build friendships.
Making friends shouldn't stop at a first meeting.
Friendly helps you meet people who share your interests and turn those first connections into something more meaningful.
It starts with what you love to do. Whether you want to explore museums, discover new restaurants, try a wine tasting, learn a new skill, or take up a creative hobby, Friendly connects you with people who want to do the same.
At Friendly we believe that friendship exists from three ingredients; openness of meeting new people, having a connection, and commitment/mere exposure. That’s exactly what you can find here. At Friendly we bring people together in friend projects, named friendzones. Think of a series of museum visits, a sewing course, regular wine tastings, or a project built around an activity you've always wanted to try.
